Would be nice if all the buttons (save, undo, redo) were in a single tab
and there was a simple means (ideally xml) of updating the list of buttons.

Yes, your notebookbar layout looks really good :) I think this is a cool
idea and probably not hard to implement. I will try to create that kind of
buttons.
