Someone in the issue says that it's very unusual in Mac.
That is something I've no idea about.

That's true.
We could forego the icons on the Mac, then, as they also have command
search, thus there's less need to look through the menus efficiently.

Ubuntu has the HUD. No need for icons there too?

I honestly don't think that icons will make menus more or less usable.
