I doubt that an application background image would look good in a
current version of LibreOffice, if it would work at all. I think (but
I don't really know), currently every UI element is rendered as a
rectangle without alpha transparency – so you'd probably always see
the corners of UI elements overlaying the image. In that respect
Firefox's layout engine is probably much better than LibreOffice's.

If you're thinking about adding an image in the background behind the
document, there is a discussion about adding the motif there: see
