Pues yo tampoco te sé decir bien qué es lo correcto, pero trabajo LO
sobre Ubunto y, hasta ahora, me funciona muy bien. Chequé lo que tengo y
además de lo que tú tienes, tengo versiones directas de Java. La
instalación, cuando yo lo hice, no fue difícil. Hazlo desde el gestor de
paquetes synaptic... Si vas a instalar java, que parece que ya lo
hicieron privativo, tendrás que ir a Repositorios y allí palomear la
opción que te indica que puedes bajar paquetes con restricciones de
copyright.
