Du machst IMHO Alles richtig.
1) <Strg+F> drücken
2) Rechts neben der Menüleiste "Standard" wird nun das Suchfeld
eingefügt, in dem Du den Suchtext eingeben kannst.
Blende mal die Menüleiste "Standard" aus (Ansicht -> Symbolleisten).
Vielleicht war das Suchfeld nur zu weit rechts.
