Dit had ik dus zelf moeten bedenken... (shame on me).
Ik was echter te veel gefocust op Xubuntu en te weinig op Thunderbird,
waardoor ik het zocht bij instellingen in Xubuntu i.p.v. bij Thunderbird.
Dick, het ging me om Thunderbird, niet om een webbrowser.
Niettemin bedankt voor je extra inspanningen.

Vanuit thunderbird gaat in het menu naar 'Bewerken' - 'Voorkeuren'Kies
hier de tab 'Bijlagen'. Hierin krijgt u een lijst van de
software welke een bepaald type bijlage zal openen.Ergens staat in
deze lijst 'Microsoft Word Document' aan de
rechterhand kunt u dit dan wijzigen in 'Libreoffice'.GroetjesJohny.
