現在のHilighting の訳は「文字の背景」ですが、ブログにも蛍光ペンのアナロジーと書かれています。

またこの変更に関係するBugzillaの会話の中にも

"Highlighting" markerという言葉が出てきます。プログラムしている方々もマーカー機能として思われているのでは無いでしょうか。

新しいWriterのアイコンを見ても蛍光ペンのような画像になっているので「蛍光ペン」で良いのかなと私は思います。
黒い背景に白い文字の使い方もあるのでしょうが、私がWriterで文書を書くときも「Hilighting機能」は蛍光ペンとしてしか使っていません。


「Shading」は現在の訳は「背景色」だと思います。「Shading
office2013」で画像検索をしてみましたが「網掛け」機能を使っている例を私は見ませんでした。ほとんどがセルやパラグラフの背景色の設定でした。「網掛け」を使うと文字が読みにくくなるので私はほとんど「網掛け」は使っていません。現実的な使い方の表現から「背景色」でよいのではないかと思います。
