Hi,

how can I prevent Silverstripe from messing up my manually edited
HTML code?

By complaining here :-)

For example, when I add some comment
<!-- This is a comment -->
Silverstripe will delete it completely.

Yes, because there is a rule
                // Word comments
                value = value.replace(new RegExp('<(!--)([^>]*)(--)>',
'g'), "");
that strips them.

Or, when I insert some blank lines or line breaks for the sake of
better readability Silverstripe will delete them completely.

That OTOH is not done by silverstripe, but already by the tinyMCE editor

I sure there's a configuration switch, but need to look it up..

ciao
Christian
