did you ask the community how many of them think it's necessary to give
out emails to each and everyone? What was the response? Actually, Sophie
has forwarded one of your messages about this to the L10n mailing list,
and I wouldn't say the response was very enthusiastic. There was a total
of 4 replies, three of which (incl. mine) suggested that automatically
providing email addresses to contributors is unnecessary.

I was approached privately a few times about that, and we had it in the last public steering conference call. All participants were supporting it, in addition, on several lists, people were heavily interested in these aliases. So, I didn't count, but from my feeling, I would say there is a strong demand. See also the membership discussion we had...

So, if there is a consensus that this should be handled on case-by-case
basis, then I wonder how problematic it would be to just keep lists as they are, while at the same time providing emails for some community members. In other words: why
do you want a separate mail server first of all?

For technical reasons, because it would have a different configuration, and the current server is already under good load, so I don't want it to bear the mail forwarders. No political, solely technical reasons.

On the other hand, even if separate servers is the only option, why not
just set up the appropriate forwarders for mailing lists? The lists
themselves could then be managed by e.g., but they
would still have proper addresses.

Then it still would affect the same mail server. Technically spoken, only a different MX record is a clean solution.

And if I can't convince you about this either, then I'm with Fabian: the
lists should be hosted on "Global" just doesn't
make sense.

As said, lists is already in use by our internal mailman instance, so not available...
