I don't know how to add page number automatically on the left/right like in
a header and footer. AFAIK you have to add a frame manually to every page.
If you write a book, you won't do this.
You can use a frame and anchor that frame to a paragraph in header or footer.
The frame will be repeated on each page automatically, no need to add it
manually.
Set the desired side in the position properties of the frame. Automatic
even/odd page mirroring is possible. Put the page number into a paragraph in
the frame. You can style such frame as you need it.
In case you need help in using such frame, go to our "Ask"-site or to the user
mailing list.
I see no need for a special left or right area.
