Why needs an image.. be inserted centered on Top..
Because you want to place the picture as close to the cursor as possible. And
as commented before it depends on the type of object. Images are supposed to be
placed within the text while other objects are treated like figures with
white-space left and right.
We didn't change properties for other object types. So it's just bug 87720 that
I can refer to. But see also bug 87742.
