Slash before and after a word makes it italic (Tools > AutoCorrect >
AutoCorrect Options... > Options > "Automatic *bold*..."). Hotkeys are accessed
per alt+<key>, meaning the underlined part of labels. Don't see any benefit
from back/slash in labels. Plus, consider that these characters are not so easy
to reach on non-English keyboards. => WF, however curious about the actual use
case. So what do you have in min?
