I'm against any fix width of the sidebar. For comparison: Also in MSO Word 2013
the user can freely choose the width of sidebars like Search and Styles. That
fulfills the requirements of many users.

From a UX point of view, what's necessary is 1) a good default width per locale
to avoid cropped UI elements and strings and 2) the width that is set by the
user must be remembered. If that's realized this request isn't necessary.
