After this issue has been filed again we should care more. In bug 112760 it's
suggested to bind the dot size to the zoom factor but perhaps we better go with
the number and use the minor ticks of the ruler with some multiplication
factor. Plus, when the dot gets a little bit more space it wouldn't hurt too
much. Could imagine that 1px is not so easy to spot on hires displays, btw.

So this needs a dev evaluation now rather than ux.
