For a long time (at least since version 3.6) LibreOffice has reset the padding
values to zero when borders were removed, but some older documents may still
have padding values despite having no border - and thus may now render
differently as the padding is activated.
To remove the unwanted padding in LO <= 5.3, first add and apply a border, and
then remove it again.
