Users want to use the latest version on Linux without requiring to go to the
terminal and try to fix dependency hell.  They simply want to fetch the latest
version from http://www.libreoffice.org and get it executed by clicking on the
downloaded file from a GUI file manager to get it installed and/or executed.

Distributions do not always provide the latest versions.

Apply any arguments used to provide a portable Windows/Mac version to Linux. 
It is for the same reasons; convenience.
