I do believe I have a legitimate use case here.
What is your actual use case - you have written a lot but you didn't describe
your use case.
Anyway, I would say that an image as cell background is the requirement that
most people want and not really what you describe. If not then please add links
to the requests in your claim: "This has been requested a multitude of times
before, over the years, by various people, without acceptable resolution."
More I read what you have written more I have a feeling that you have a
specific use case that is not really suited for a spreadsheet program. I mean -
it sounds cool but I just don't see that we would or could implement it anytime
soon.
I don't necessarily care about manipulation of image data, just about simple
display of a small image in the cell, and a larger version for inspection.
Why the extremely blown-up "solution" proposal then?
