            Bug ID: 98696
           Summary: Create Easier DDE Linking Between Calc and Writer
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 5.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: ux-advise
          Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org

Hi All,

I found this guide:
https://www.fossoffice.com/en/2013/04/02/calc-writer-cell-value-link/

It's really useful but I think proves a few things:
1) It's way too complicated to create linked data between a cell in calc and
writer documents;
2) It's not entirely useful because cells are linked absolute and no ability to
create relative paths (see comments);
3) The solution isn't ideal because you cannot copy/paste from the document
into another type of application (for example you can't paste into pastebin,
the linked DDE data will be missing).

This goes way above my head in terms of planning a solution so I am requesting
that the great UX team take a stab at it to see if any solutions jump out. A
couple suggestions that I have:

1) Make it so that you don't have to create a frame and then adjust it in order
to anchor as character or to paragraph;
2) Make it so that it's easy to set absolute or relative paths;
3) By default make it so the pasted cell maintains the same size (instead of
expanding the whole width of the page);
4) Find a solution to enable the data to be copied to other applications
5) Perhaps even get rid of the cell entirely, just link the data itself -
seamlessly into the line (that would be ideal IMHO)

Thanks in advance for considerations.
