@myself: At least 5.x, when you open a read only document you are asked if you
want to modify it, so you can have what I was suggesting.
Nevertheless I agree that those settings (scale, orientation and margins), even
are usually saved inside the document as document properties, could simply be
allowed and then discarded considering their importance in the goal of
correctly printing the document.
