What happened to Edit > Fields / Footnote/Endnote / Index entry /
Bibilograohy entry / Hyperlink? I don't see them.
Those were removed as their functionality is easily accessible in the
context menu and they clutter up the Edit menu. Is there an important
reason to have them their that you are aware of?
At other places we have also seen items being removed from the context menu
and added to the menu bar.
The context menu is for quick access to frequently used functions and
shouldnt contain ever possible function, which is the job of the menu bar.
The HIG states that all functions should be accessible in the menu bar, so
on that basis they do deserve to be in the menu bar, but the HIG also states
that we should attempt to keep the menu bar entries to 20, which is why i
had removed them as Edit > Hyperlink is no different that Insert > Hyperlink
or clicking on the Hyperlink button in the toolbar or Context Menu > Edit
Hyperlink. If it is preferred to have them, then ideally we should make a
submenu for them. Any suggestion on how to title them?
Thanks for explaining.
I would not be able to think of good name for such a mixed category.
But I would give preference to the rule to have all items available in the
menu, over the (arbitrary) limit of 20 items. Esp since those items are at the
lower side.
