I have only used one shift speed which could also be adjusted.

What does the shift speed do? (Sorry for the probably dumb question.)
I had problems to find the right words for it. The distance the screen
center is moved during one zoom step.
For example it might be possible to increase the movement the farer the
mouse is aways from the center but I don't think that it would be a good
idea.

I just want some early feedback from you so I don't implement it in the
"wrong direction".

There is one thing that I think you should change: zooming out should
happen as before. Mouse-centered zooming out means that more often
than not I land in the page background which isn't so useful.
That is a great idea. The zooming out behavior annoyed me a little bit too.
I was thinking about reversing the direction but your idea sounds better.

Thanks for the input
Tim
