Hi all!

Just two quick thoughts ...

HI

It seems we borrowed from MS:

Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Word
...

and felt compelled to do the same
LibreOffice Calc
LibreOffice Writer

so, +1 to remove "LibreOffice" there.

As others already pointed out, the search for applications within the
Windows 7 start menu works a bit differently. For those being curious
for the MS guidelines, please have a look at [1].

Personally, I don't think that the current StartMenu is hard to handle,
since one doesn't need to type "LibreOffice" to jump to the
corresponding menu item - using the cursor keys works very well here.

Next, please think about what happens if we omit "LibreOffice". Although
it might sound totally strange to some, we might loose some good
marketing capability. Many people still don't know (much) about us, so
having that name might help to strengthen the project and also help
people to identify that "Base" belongs to LibreOffice.

Indeed, what I thought about long time ago is, whether we want to
compete with MS Office by having individual application names (like
"Excel = Calc"), or whether we will finally go back to "LibreOffice
Spreadsheet" --> Excel). That would solve lots of issues we currently
have in the UI ...

Cheers,
Christoph (who will be on a business trip for a few days)

        Hi,

A user reported the following issue:
        https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43259

"The entries in LibreOffice's Start Menu folder all begin
        with the word
'LibreOffice', e.g. 'LibreOffice Base', 'LibreOffice Calc'.
         Surely this word
is superfluous, since they are entries in a folder named
        'LibreOffice ...'?
This is not just a cosmetic issue: it means that the user
        cannot start Impress,
for example, simply by pressing the 'I' key in this menu
        folder - instead you
need multiple presses of the 'L' or down-arrow keys,
        followed by return. "

What do you think? Should we fix this ot not?

If the items are indeed in a folder named LibreOffice, I think we
should drop the name from each item.
