Apparently some users want the contents of the hidden cells to be
removed when merging them *and* not choosing the contents to be joined
together.

Then I think the best choice would be to add a rolling list just after
the merge button :
* The merge button would behave like the current merge "yes" answered.
* the first button of the rolling list would be the same as merge button
above.
* the second button of the rolling list would behave like the current
merge "no" answered.

What do you think ?

I hope it's understandable as I am not a native english speaker...
