Wouldn't it be enough to change the linking of the events Shift-Drag and Drag (no idea how those are called in the C++ code) ?

        Interesting, setting "Keep Ratio" on an object in the options page has
no effect at all on user sizing it (it seems) ;-) I can still stretch it
as much as I like once outside that dialog - although the setting is
persisted.

Yes, it only influences the behaviour when changing the values in the controls.
