I'd emphasize on the standard ODF file format.

My constant hint is to *always* use the native file format a tool can 
manipulate, eg ODF file formats when working with LibO/OOo. Then, *when 
and only when* an export need arises under some other exotic file 
format, just Save as for that purpose.
