Greetings,

needed.

Problem is that a word processing file I'm trying to edit says it's
'locked for editing.' Two questions: 1.) How did I lock it? and 2.) How
do I go about unlocking it? TIA for any suggestions.

The locking is done automatically by the software, so that two users cannot
work together on the same file and one overwriting the changes of the other.

To unlock change first the setting within nautilus to show the hidden files.
Then go into the same directory, where your file is and you'll see there a file
with a similar name that ends in .lck. Delete this file and you can edit your
original file again as before.

I believe, this will help.

Sigrid

Thank you Sigrid. That worked!
