Something like this is already available in Windows7 by default.
When clicking the start button (or CTRL+ESC) this field is active by
default.

No, there is search only.


I dont know about Mac, and UI of Linux, because:
- I dont have a Mac
- UI of Linux looks too often too simmilar to last Windows version.

"UI if Linux"!? For me, this is blackbox (fluxbox) for last 10 years.
Gnome Do however inspired me by its description (and screenshots).

- I almost never use a UI on Linux.

tried awesome wm?
