Well, I can edit the presentation using OpenOffice 3.2.1 (I ended up
uninstalling LibreOffice 3.3 and going back to OO 3.2.1) which is what
I used to create it in the first place. It is slow at times but not
nearly as severely as 3.3 and is stable. I guess I will avoid
inserting large figures and hope for the best.

I noticed too that it works fine in a previous version of OOo. So with the new 330-code (most is shared by OOo and LibO) some regression in this area is introduced.

I always have some older versions at hand.
