"Better" is a very simplistic term.  Similar projects usually have different 
aims&objectives and therefore suit different circumstances better.

LibreOffice seems more responsive to bug-reports and seems to be developing 
functionality faster.  In the first week of LibreOffice we saw a LOT of 
thoroughly tested bug-fixes were finally released which have still not been 
released in OpenOffice.  So, OpenOffice would say that it is better because it 
is "more stable", meaning that known bugs&quirkiness stay around for longer.  


LibreOffice is due to be the standard Office used in most new installs of linux  
although OpenOffice is likely to remain in their repositories so people can 
still change from Libre to KOffice (is that called Caliga or something now) or 
Gnome Office (very very light-weight and limited functionality) or OpenOffice.  
We have already seen a lot of Windows users and even some Mac users switch to 
LibreOffice.  


One problem with creating a table is that we have to keep adding new things to 
the LibreOffice side while the OpenOffice side would remain fairly static.  Our 
opinion would probably be seen as biased although it might be a useful tool for 
us to have.

Well, that´s not very easy and will be changing a lot in the next
months. At the moment, I guess, it´s a true statement in general to
say, that LibreOffice has more features and more bugs as well. (My
very personal impression, though.)

But for me, much more interesting is the following:

OpenOffice.org is just open source, whereas LibreOffice is
independent and free (in sense of freedom).

The OpenOffice.org project today is the remainder of a huge
community after most of the independent community members supported
the idea, that a non-profit foundation should take care of the
evolution of their project, rather than Oracle. In fact, when you
look at the people and the spirit of the project, LibreOffice is the
true continuation of the former OpenOffice.org project. It´s just a
new name due to some legal issue.
