Thanks for all this new information; & thanks for sharing your great
computer knowledge with 'ol' pre-computer brain' me.

ah, so it must not be my computer nor internet service - that's a
relief.

I think you're right re. influencing Apple - oh, well, I miss the
days when I was welcome to walk in anywhere, & chat with whomever - (I
guess I'm dating myself again - when some folks still referred to computers
as "a passing fad")

Maybe I should try Linus again - I'll check out Mageia; see if I
can at least understand what they're saying ;-)

Upgrade of OS will cause that problem in any OS .. having to download
new version of LO
In Linux, the distribution usually does that for you (OS and LO
together) at the same time
Highly doubtful on the "influence" Apple idea (my opinion)
Hope that helps
Oh by the way (opinion again) Mageia has a great community for help, as
well as an easy install and setup (opinion, as I said) ... I use the
Plasma desk top manager.

        that's where I go to download - all's great, until - maybe it's
when
Apple updates, actually once the VLC was faulty - had to re-download that
???

Another option - could it be AT&T ???

Believe it or not, I did try Linux right after saying bye to MsFt
products for good; this ol' pre-computer brain needed someone in the know
to teach me its ins & outs, so went to the Apple store - which no longer
exists - & have been happy with it except for its obvious dis-like (?) of
the best programs, as this one, which are made by those who are really in
the know re. computers.

Thank you both for responding; I do appreciate it - & maybe -
hopefully - someone(s) here will have some influence to make Apple see
this
is an unsettling problem with some who enjoy doing historical &
genealogical research ...

Too simplistic ... Apple is probably still the best/easiest graphic
platform ... should be a better answer.
Same problem if you download from
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/ ?
Or different problem?
My OS is Linux (Mageia 9, Plasma), so I don't know

Hi Anne,

"Once bitten ...."

Sounds like you should bite the bullet and dump Apple.

... what is the problem with Apple - I've once again had to
re-download this great program, because mine quit functioning;
this seems to be an annual event - this time, I thought maybe
they
wanted me to download from their 'store', but even though they even
state
it's free to use, they want $10, which BTW only is for a portion of this
program ???

For some reason, Apple wants their programs used, even though
these
do not function well, including having to shut down the computer
after using whatever because their program is still operational & won't
allow anything else to operate ???

I've tried umpteen times to call them, to no avail - there is
no
Apple store within a 250 mile radius - but the 'phone line person
(robot ?)
states just drop by their store anytime for help ???

If any of you great folks should happen to have any knowledge
to
share, or comments, I sure would enjoy hearing from you,

Take care; & may you continue to provide a beautiful program
for all
to use,
