In addition to the information already provided you may...

* Open Write, then use the "File > Open..." menu path to select the Word
file you wish to open.

NOTE: if the file does not appear as a choice, make sure the correct
directory is selected and the filter on the File-Open dialog is set to
"Text documents (Writer)" or "All files". These links may be helpful...

* Tell Windows to ALWAYS USE LibreOffice Write when you double-click a Word
file.
Since you're not seeing Write as an option when you go through the "Open
with..." list I suggest installing LibreOffice again, then see if it is on
the right-click menu.

* Your saved LO documents are now Word files.
Uncertain if you mean new documents you create become Word files when saved
or that existing files, after editing, then being saved, are converted to
Word files.

New files becoming "Word" files when saved suggests the default save
setting is changed. Default save settings discussion can be found here...
