I think the OP was NOT referring to certificates required when installing LibreOffice but rather to 
  digital signing of a Writer document. It seems LO could not locate the OP's signing certificate 
when he wanted to sign a document.

Apart from seeing in Writer File > Digital Signatures, I don't have any experience of storing the 
certificates or telling LO where they are.
