Hi Mike:
No, Auto Filter is not what I am/was looking for.
Let me explain my task/goal further 😏:
I am attempting to edit an existing Calc file that is essentially an
"address book" database. I want to add a column that ultimately
identifies, or tags, each record/row as being included within a specific
category, e.g., family, friends, government, medical, recreational, or
vendors. Some, but not all of those categories, have many records to be
"tagged".
So, my goal is to edit the existing data w/o typos by use of drop down
lists. It appears that I need to make use of
Data>Validity>Criteria>Allow>Cell Range .... with dependent drop down(s).
Thanks for your reply.

Are you familiar with Auto Filter?
Highlight all column headers and all the data below -
then select Data - Autofilter.
Is that what you want?
You can set multiple filter criteria in the column header drop-downs.
Select Data - Autofilter again to turn it off, if you want it off.

Hi:
Hope that all are well.
I am using LO 7.3.2.2 (x64) on desktop Win10 Home.
I want to fine tune a LO Calc file by adding a column that includes a
Category drop-down menu, but I find that I might have need for
subcategories, in some cases, to avoid a very long list of items.
I recall viewing a tutorial about what I am calling "nested drop-down
menu list", whereby if an option in the parent drop-down is selected,
a second, a third, ... etc. drop-down list is then opened, if they
exist. For example, if one option is utilities, a second drop-down is
opened showing, e.g. telephone, electricity, heating fuel, water,
etc., as further, optional, selections.
Unfortunately, I cannot recall if the tutorial was for Excel or
Apache Open Office or Libre Office.
Can somebody point me to a */Libre Office/* video tutorial or within
the LO Help that covers "nested drop down list"? "Nested drop-down
menu list" is most probably an incorrect key word text string.
Thanks for reading this.
