I received a [spreadsheet?] from a customer written in an excel

Exactly what did you do? What happened when you tried?
o Select the cells whose borders you need to change.
o Go to Format | Cells... | Borders (or right-click | Format Cells...
| Borders).
o Under Line arrangement | Default, click the leftmost icon (showing
no borders).
o OK.
Alternatively:
o Select the cells whose borders you need to change.
o Click the Borders button in the Formatting toolbar (displayed by default).
o In the drop-down panel, click the first (top-left) icon (showing no borders).
I trust this helps.
