I came across this article today.

Interesting article. Unfortunately Jack Wallen is not aware (or deliberately
ignores) that 5.1.0 is the .0 release in a new branch. Even if it has new
features (because it is a new branch...) it is still very raw and it should
not be recommended for general use.
So 5.1 is not a .1 fix over 5.0. It is a new branch with new features (and
new bugs and regressions). Branch 5.1 should be usable around 5.1.3 (just
like 5.0.5 is an excellent version)

A good example is Open Remote File. It is an excellent improvement. Except
that because this is a .0 release it fails to work on some systems/OSes
(search bugzilla to see what I mean).

Another example is OpenGL. In branch 5.1 OpenGL is set to ON by default.
Unfortunately OpenGL is currently not a good experience (at least in my
experience with several machines ranging from Windows XP to 10). The menus
are blurry and slow, which is particularly noticeable on older/slower
systems.

So, yes branch 5.1 has great things but don't make such a fuss about a .0
(again, it is 5.1.0) release.

Just my 2 cents...
