You are correct Brian, the bug is different. I hadn't noticed that the 
extension was missing, Opensuse doesn't need it to know its a Writer file.
What is happening is that the extension is not being automatically 
added, it seems I need to explicitly add the extension in the dialogue.
Create a new Writer file, Click Save, type a name like 16.77.test and 
have automatically add extension. It is not added on file save.
Same when producing a PDF.
