Hi.
I wonder if someone could advise if master documents could make my life
easier.
I have am creating operating manuals for a product with up to 6
different variations. About 2/3 the manual is generic and 1/3 specific
to a product.
A bit like you could order a car w/wo stereo, w/wo ABS, w/wo cruise
control, etc. and then depending upon the final selections add or remove
the relevant sections from the operator manual.
My thoughts are to use a set of 6 master documents, each contains the
generic part and then one or more of the 6 variant parts.
There is outline numbering throughout, references linking the general
part into the variant part(s) and from the variant part to the generic part.
There is also a table of contents from the outline numbering.
Does LO automatically renumber the outline numbering as documents are
added or removed from the master and update the TOC (with right click
Update).
Are references preserved/reactivated as sections are added or removed.
I only want to have to maintain one copy of each relevant part. Less
professional but workable is to produce only one big manual and export
to PDF just the page ranges I need for the required variant combination,
i.e. 1-20, 32-40, 48-56
Comments much appreciated,
Steve
