Hi :)
You seem to have developed a remarkably simple system for displaying some
very complicated data. So, congrats for that! :)

1. For your paragraph 4 the key-words are "freeze pane" in most
spreadsheet programs that i've seen;
*
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/ASK-How-to-use-FREEZE-PANE-tp2826876p2837271.html

This faq type guide might help;
*
http://guide2office.com/620/faq-lockingfreezing-heading-rows-in-openoffice-calc-and-freezing-columns-too/

but basically just click into any cell and then go up to the "window" menu
and choose "freeze pane". First few times it will probably be in the wrong
place and maybe freak you out a bit! Just keep going back to the "window"
menu and choose "unfreeze" until you figure out the best cell to click in
to get the result you want.

I tend to insert a "buffer" row (ie an empty row) under the rows i want to
keep at the top and another one at the top of the sheet. I make both these
empty rows about half (or less) the height of normal rows so they kinda
stand out. Then i put the split between them. That way i can insert extra
rows either below or above the split without having to mess around so
much. I do the equivalent with the columns at the far left too. :)

2. I tend to agree with Andreas that a proper database is probably what
you need for the longer-term. I also agree that the explanation is too
complex for us to really get to grips with without seeing something
'concrete'.

Is it possible to use;
File - "Save As"
to save a copy of the file and then maybe "Search and replace" to change
people's names and stuff? Maybe change some entries around to try to make
it less obvious and more in-line with confidentiality?

Maybe this link might help anonymise the data and names suitably?
http://www.lipsum.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorem_ipsum

It might be easier to use the "Save As" and then just delete all the
confidential information and just give us a few rows of rough examples.

Regards from
Tom :)

Hi all,

Really hope you can help me with this.

First, I already know the underlying table structure for the planned
staff
rota.

But we don't. Nobody has a clue what you are writing about. Upload your
database draft so we can talk about the same thing.
