Yes, have a look at the status bar, bottom edge right. It sounds like you
have placed your Writer View layout into "Book view "mode, two pages as in
an open book--odd on right, evens on left (in RTL). Select one of the other
icons.
Through 4.4 builds, the center two-page icon of "View mode" is default.
But current master development builds have renamed that "Multiple-page
view", and set the one-page icon for "Single-page view" as new default.
yes it was the view setting, I somehow didn't see it in the view menu
but clicking on the little icon did the trick. Thanks all!
