Hi :)
It's probably NOT a scam, just an accident. However, please react as
though it was!
You don't say what method of payment so it's difficult for us to
suggest the best course of action. Also it's unclear if there was
anything unusual about making the payment itself. have you made
purchases online before? Was this any different? If it was and if it
was by debit or credit card it might be good to phone the card
cancellation/replacement number and they should send you a replacement
card within 4-10 working days. My bank does 4 days. If it was credit
(maybe even a debit) card then you probably have some way of blocking
or recovering the charge.
As others have said it's unclear which website you paid. Please let
us know but just don't give us any transaction details! Our donations
page is not perfect and some people have thought that the donation was
mandatory rather than being a choice. However, our default suggested
donation is $10 usd. While it's possible to change it to $5 that
increases the chances of you spotting that it's not a required charge
at all. Note that MS Office charges around £100-200 and Kingsoft, i
think charges around £20.
Also you didn't let us know which web-browser you were using. Many
would have blocked a download and put an extra tool-bar at the top of
the screen, usually yellow(ish) and on the far right-hand side put a
button saying "Allow". However, i've just been using a friend's
machine where Internet Explorer did hide where it was downloading to
and made the downloads unavailable. I've fixed it for her now by
installing Firefox (which is very clear) and by upgrading IE.
So, to help us give you a direct link to an appropriate download
please let us know which platform (Windows, Mac or Linux (such as
Ubuntu, Mint, Mageia)), which language (eg English US or GB or ...).
Errr, we have free documentation at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications#Getting_Started_with_LibreOffice
Chapter 3 about Styles in the "Getting Started Guide" is the crucial
one for helping understand LibreOffice's different approach. Styles
in MS Office are a tad painful but in LibreOffice they result in far
higher-quality documents.

Tom :) (errr, a different Tom)

Have I been scammed? I agreed to a $5 charge but the program would not
download or react in any way.
I feel like a dunce.
Would you please supply the link from which you downloaded?
