There might be two errors mixed. I can open a .cdr file, if I use file > 
open, but not via Insert > Image.

A crash with Draw have been reported several times, but it is not 
totally clear, in what environments it crashes.

I suggest to go back to version 4.1 till the crash problem is fixed.
