Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply. I tried memory. It's set to several times the size of the video and matches the desktop settings. I tried changing it with no improvement in the result. I'd love to hear any other ideas you or others might have. I will also try the whole user profile later.

Hi :)
Perhaps copy your old User Profile from your old machine to your new
one? I'm specifically think about the memory settings

Tools - Options - Memory

and just bump them right up, not by a small fraction but by setting
things to 100MB or however large the video-file is (well a little bit
more than however large it is).

Copying the entire User Profile will bring in more of your old
settings too and galleries, templates, blah, blah.
Regards from
Tom :)

I have been running libreoffice impress 3.7.2 on my desktop computer in
Ubuntu 12.04 for some time without difficulty. I recently purchased a
laptop with Ubuntu 13.10. Everything about libreoffice impress works well
on the laptop also except that inserted movies cause problems in the default
presentation mode. The movies play in a slow, jerky way, or crash impress.
It seems that it is not a hardware issue as the specs on the laptop are much
better than my rather old desktop where things work fine. The problem
occurs in impress 4.1 as well as 3.7.2 on the laptop, but the same impress
files work fine on my desktop. The relevant video files (avi) also play
fine on the laptop in any other mode: in video player, outside of
presentation mode in impress, and when "window" is selected as the
presentation mode. This is a fairly serious problem for me as this was my
primary intended use for the laptop. Help would be greatly appreciated.
