I was having trouble opening an excel file (.xls) in LO 3 but before posting to the list, I upgraded to LO 4.0.3 and tried again. This time no trouble opening the file. Just thought I'd post my experience. I can't comment as to the reasons why, but it worked, so if you're having trouble, you might try this. Carl Paulsen
