Hi :)
In previous cases i think it's usually turned out to be a corrupted file.

1. So, can you create a copy of the file as it is so that if anything else goes wrong with it then
at least you have this new back-up?
2. Are there older versions of the file that you can go back to?
3. Are you also having troubles with other files or is it just this one?

4. It's vaguely possible that it's your install of LibreOffice. 1st thing is to rename your
user-profile to see if that changes anything useful
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile
Any better yet?

5. If you go to
Tools - Options - Memory
then you can boost the amount of memory that LO can use for various things. It's defaults are
quite low because LibreOffice is often used on far lower-spec machines than yours.

6. If you used the package manager to install then try it's "repair broken packages" feature. However
LibreOffice is an exception to the usual rule and it's often better to download LibreOffice from "upstream"
directly from the LibreOffice website rather than install a tweaked version from a distro's repos. Have you been able
to check your download was ok? Md5sum or Sha should
be easy to check but if not (if, like me, you don't know how to) then perhaps just re-download and
re-install.

7. Can you try an earlier version of LibreOffice? The 3.5.7 would be a good one to try. The
higher that 3rd digit the more stable the release tends to be. Usually past x.x.4 the difference
is fairly minor and the 3.6.x branch has already reached a high enough 3rd digit for it to be
unlikely to have any problems. The advantage of the newer branch is better compatibility with MS
formats and greater functionality. Neither of those sounds important for you right now though.

8. Someone with more knowledge of LO than me is likely to give a better answer soon if not already
but my list is roughly what i would do in the order i would do it.

Until then good luck and please let us know how this goes
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Subject: [libreoffice-users] libreoffice slow to delete sheets and slow in general

on my laptop dell latitude E6510
CPU Information
Processor (CPU): Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz
   Speed: 933,00 MHz
   Cores: 8
   Memory Information
Total memory (RAM): 3,9 GiB
Free memory: 169,1 MiB (+ 1,6 GiB Caches)
   Free swap: 9,7 GiB
with opensuse 12.2, kde 4.9.4
libreoffice Version 3.6:build-304 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:304)),

I have a calc file with 7 sheets, one of them is a 33 columns x 4461 rows sheet, I would like to
delete it, right click on it, click on delete sheet, after one hour it wasn't deleted and
libreoffice was hanged, is it normal or it is not a common behaviour??? or bug??

and also I remember that with the previous versions it wasn't so slow in all the operations, insert
a number in a blank cell takes up to 3 seconds

to delete the sheet I had to delete 500 rows per time and then the sheet deletetion takes about 5
minutes

I don't know if it depends on file, I can send if it can help

thnx :-) ciao :-) pier and happy new year

ok, I made a copy of the file, on this copy I tryed to delete the "archivi" sheet, it is empty, I launched this yesterday at 21:00, this morning at 09:00 it was still there working, so I decided to adopt another strategy :-) I opened a new spreadsheet, copied (right click on sheet>copy/move>select copy>select the new spreadsheet>ok) the first sheet, the copy was very fast, I made the same with the second. With the third it takes about 20seconds, a suspect rise to me, the third was only data sheet, no formulas, so I added a sheet in the new spreadsheet and copied only data, the same with the other sheets. now the spreadsheet is very more fast than before, but the formatting parameters hasn't been transferred at all, many things has to be redone in the appearence and fonts and styles, but now it is possible to work with it.
do you think it is a defective file?? or other??
thanks bye :-) pier :-)
