Hi Hank,

ith the same result. Is this a bug? Has anyone noticed this type of
behavior ? Base seems to start out handling records in increments of about
40 records until it finds the end of the file. Strange.

This is the programmed behaviour. Whether, as a UI experience, it is normal, is a matter of debate ;-)

The result set is cached, and the window display also caches part of the result set to avoid performance penalties by not having to redraw all elements of the window, hence the misleading information. Some work was done recently in 3.6/3.7/4.0 development to improve this handling, but it was mainly around the window refresh area from what I recall, as other changes to the code had caused this bit to be even slower, and not refresh at all, or at best take so long about it that the user got a blank screen :-/

So, at the moment, your best bet is probably to put in a request for enhancement, after having tested on LO 3.6.x to see if there's any difference when compared to 3.5.x.
