What do you call "old style numbers"?
By "old style numbers" he probably means old-style numbers! These are
numerals which are like lower case letters, some of regular ("x")
height and others with either ascenders or descenders. These contrast
with the numerals generally used these days, which behave like capital
letters: they are all of consistent full height.

I trust this helps.

I did a quick check of the Special Characters available for a few fonts.
The numbers looked like they designed to have the same feel as the
letters for each font. So my guess is that some will but many will not
have the "old style numbers".

Looking through the fonts on my system I found several that had old
style numbers; mostly serif or italic fonts.

I did some looking and I think this font is what you want - or at least one of them.

The wiki page shows some of the numbers going below the line of text. Read the page.

Have Linux Libertine, Linux Libertine G, Linux Libertine O, Linux Biolium, etc., etc., installed. The lower alignment numbers are in the Insert > Special Characters > Private Use Area, as far as I can see.

It is a Unicode font and free.

Plus they may come with the LO 3.5.4 installs. If now, they are in most distros, so I have read.

As for other fonts, well, you will have to look for Unicode fonts with the extra glyphs for the "old style" numbers you are looking for.

looks like another one.
