I know it does not help figure out what is going on with the internal English, but go to this page and download one of the "kpp" American English dictionaries. Install it through the Extension Manager.

http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/dictionary.html#english

Once you do that, see if that gives you the American English spell checking you need, instead of Spanish, when you select English for your language.

If it works, then there is an error in the package's internal dictionary for English.

By the way, did you do a custom install? You can select only the menu and dictionary languages you want, instead of LO installing all of the "default" ones. That is, for me, as issue of Windows. Linux requires you to download language packs for anything other than US-English, so it is easier for you to control which languages you install/use.

The "kpp" American English dictionaries are spell-checking word lists, with a full thesaurus included. You can choose from 98,000 word to 638,000 word versions. I would choose 390K or 638K word list size. Most people prefer the larger lists, I am told.

SO
download/install the dictionary. If you get English spell-checking working, then it is LO internal dictionary. If it does not, then it is a different issue.

Sorry, but that is all I know to help, at this time.

All,

I downloaded the 3.5.1 version for English on Windows. All grammar and spell
checking seems to be in Spanish even though "English (USA)" is selected
under the Language option. Any suggestions?

Thank you
