There you can set the default language for documents (which will be used when
no language is set in the text). But any character of your text can have its
own language setting (think e.g. of translators who write bilinugal texts), so
you should make sure, that the language setting of the character you want to
check really corresponds with the spellchecker language. Even on paragraph
level you can have a certain language setting which overrides the default
setting but is overridden in turn by the setting on character level. (At least
that's how I understand it, though I did not check it for a while.)
