     You may want to download these two items from this website.

     The two are: Getting Started with Impress chapter (part of the
Getting Started Guide) and the Impress Guide. Many of your questions
should be answered from one of the two.
    Master Pages are also known as Master Slides or Slide Masters.
Whatever the name, think of them as being the templates for the slide
show. Like templates in Writer, you can use one master slide for all the
slides or use several master slides in the presentation.
