I wonder what the difference would be using openjdk-jre, vs. the
"regular" version, with respect to security?
We still have to have Java as part of LO, even when all of the internal
Java coding changed out to Python. There are Extensions that require a
JRE being installed so it can work. So, then all of them would have to
be rewritten. How much work will it be before all of the coding
associated with ALL parts of LO and its extensions be free of Java?
Will we still need it when someone writes for OOo with Java and then
offers it to LO for inclusion. Now everyone will want to write in
Python if they prefer Java.
As for the burning, why waste a good CD?

Hi :)
So the leaky sieve has had a couple more holes plugged. The only way to use java safely is burn it
to Cd and use the Cd as a coaster or a frisbee or a Crimble decoration (try to avoid inhaling the
smoke if you 'accidentally' burn it!

Tom :)

Hi,
I saw this announcement:

So SUN/Oracle JDK will be removed.
The article gives some more advise of course.
HTH,
